Robbie Williams is set to be unveiled as the new Didcot Casuals reserve team manager later this month, and the veteran defender says he has “no regrets” in cutting his time at the Lair short. Williams, 34, will leave Andrew King’s ‘A’ team after just 12 months, in favour of a return to his former side, who won promotion to division 4 last season.
Williams made 18 appearances for Inter last season but found opportunities limited as King continued to strengthen his squad. The arrivals of Jon Grenough and Lee Marshall among others saw Williams’s role reduced to that of a fringe squad player.
In an exclusive interview with www.theatomics.co.uk, Williams stated his love for the club but admitted that the lure of a management role at his former club was too good to turn down. “I have enjoyed my time at Inter immensely but just feel now is the right time for me to move on”. “Andy (King) has a great squad of players and will be favourites to win the league this year - so it was a hard decision for me to walk away from that”
The popular defender hit just one goal for the club in his spell at the Lair but it is a strike that is sure to be remembered for some time.
KING ISSUES HANDS OFF WARNING TO TOWN (18/01/2007)
Boss Andy King has hit out a speculation that he may be on the verge of losing star striker Jonny Eudell during the transfer window.
Reports emerged earlier this week that Didcot Town boss Gary Elkins had been in contact with Eudells agents regarding a switch to the Loop.
King yesterday pointed the finger at Elkins for trying to unsettle his man and told www.theatomics.co.uk that Eudell is happy at Inter. “ I have spoken to Jonny and his only goal this season is to remain at Inter and keep playing football’.
King gambled on the out of favour Eudell at the start of the season and has already been rewarded with a show of 14 goals from 10 starts from the lively striker. At only 17, Eudell is one of the most promising prospects in the North Berks and King reassured Inter fans that he would be doing all he could to sign him on a professional contract over the summer.
Williams looks forward to season (27/09/2006)
Robbie Williams is looking forward to a successful Division 5 campaign after being snapped up by new man in charge Andy King.
A 6-5 defeat against Uffington did not reflect The Atomics dominance, and did little to affect the spirits of the born again defender.
With a little luck, Inter would have won by several goals, a fact not lost on former Casuals playmaker Williams.
Williams, 34, struck his first goal in five years and believes the team has got huge potential if they can tighten things up at the back.
Inter paraded new signing Jonny Eudell before kick-off, and Willimas was delighted to see the former Kiddlington Boys striker arrived for £10million.
'It's brilliant,'' he said. 'Obviously I know him from watching him over the last few years in the Young Offenders League. He's got electric pace and can finish as well so he can be a legend up here.
'I'm loving every minute. I've been here three or four weeks and I'm happy as Larry.''
Harwell have a new King (11/08/2006)
Harwell International A's new manager Andy King hailed the Atomics job as a 'fantastic challenge' at a press conference on Monday.
The Atomics targeted the former Harwell Rugby star who was only too willing to accept the job offer, despite the boardroom uncertainty that continues to surround the club.
King, who was paraded in front of the press by club secretary Chris Salmon, was quick to lay down his manifesto.
And, after putting his name to a one-year rolling contract, King admitted his relish for a return to football following his brief spell with the reserve team 2 years ago.
"It's a fantastic challenge," King told The Didcot Herald. "I'm willing, I'm ready to go. I've got a lot of enthusiasm.
"I'm ready and when Mr Salmon gave me the chance to manage the team I wanted to do it.
The appointment of the highly-rated King will, however, have done much to appease the Harwell faithful, who mobbed the manager's car as he arrived at the ground - a reaction that King admits had overwhelmed him.
Salmon confirmed that King, who has been on sabbatical for more than a year, was his first choice for the job.
"To me his passion and ability to motivate players is unsurpassed," said Salmon.
"Although we've had about a dozen applications, I've not spoken to one other prospective manager. I told him from the beginning he was my choice and here he is today."
Salmon also confirmed that King will be joined at the club by his trusted assistant manager Zen Anchors.
