INTER FLOP AT 6'S (09/07/2007)

All 3 sides failed to get out of the group stages at Saturday’s Grove 6’s. The 1st team - guided by Mike Vokins - only lost one game but could not preform well enough to avoid 5 draws out of 7 games. The only win came against Division 4 Childrey. The Reserves won a couple more games, with Rob Jonson and Tom Couling in good form, but more defeats meant that they too were heading home early. Andrew King’s A team received the hair dryer treatment after a sloppy opening and fought back with a couple of good results, but it was not enough to take them to the knock out stages.

SALMON NETS SECRETARY OF YEAR PRIZE (05/07/2007)

Inter Secretary Chris Salmon was last night presented with the North Berks Club Secretary of the Year Award. Salmon, who stepped down from his role as Chairman at the end of the 05/06 season to focus his attentions on the role of Secretary, beat off competition from all 5 divisions. The gong is just reward for Salmon who has been involved with the running of the club since 1998. Salmon, 48, told www.theatomics.co.uk “It’s an honour for me to recognised in this way - and this reflects well on the club”. “There was a bit of a cock up away at Village but apart from that I feel I done a good job last season”.

PIKE SET TO SLIP THROUGH ATOMICS NET (28/09/2006)

Harwell International have moved to cool speculation linking former Atomics superstar Dave Pike with a sensational move back to the club where he made his name. The Atomics were reported to be close to agreeing a deal to sign the 51-year-old midfielder on loan with a view to a permanent transfer next summer. Club Chairman Dave Davies told The Didcot Herlad "Talks broke down with Pikey, We could not offer him Division 1 football, so he will be looking elsewhere” Reports had filtered through earlier in the week that Inter were set to capture Pike, after several meetings with Davies at The Milton Travel Lodge came to light. Pike, who has made over 400 appearances for The Atomics told The Herald “As an Inter fan it would have be a dream move for me but playing top flight football is my benchmark” “The Chairman offered me a big bit of bait by putting together a tempting deal, but I have decided my future lies elsewhere”
